01The brief

A national network, with each state shown on its own page

WIN is national, but its support is won one state at a time. A legislator in Kentucky wants to see what WIN has done in Kentucky.

The national site still needs every story, guide and event in one place. So the same content has to show up in two ways: all of it nationally, and only the right part on each state page.

At a glance

4state pages, one shared layout
3CMS collections feeding every page
1entry per story, shown wherever it belongs

02How it’s built

Filter, don’t duplicate

Every impact story, resource and event carries a two-letter state abbreviation. Each state page lists the items that match its own state, or that have no state at all.

When an entry hasIt appears on
State Abbreviation OHThe Ohio page, and the national lists.
State Abbreviation left emptyEvery state page, and the national lists.
National Event switched onEvery state page, so a large event is entered once instead of four times.
The WIN in Kentucky page hero: From the Bluegrass to the Frontlines
Kentucky: “From the Bluegrass to the Frontlines.”
The WIN in West Virginia page hero: Forged in Appalachia. Fielded Globally.
West Virginia: “Forged in Appalachia. Fielded Globally.”

Both states share one layout. Each hero is written for its state, and everything below it comes filtered from the CMS.

A new state is three filter values

Adding a state means duplicating one page and changing three filter values. The content side needs no change.

The West Virginia page in the Webflow Designer, its news list filtered to State Abbreviation equals WV or is not set

The West Virginia news list: State Abbreviation is WV, or isn’t set.

03Written for the editor

Entered the same way every time, because the CMS says how

The routing only works if editors type the state the same way on every entry. So each field that drives it explains itself, right where the editor fills it in.

FieldTypeHelp text the editor seesCollection
State AbbreviationText, 2 characters“Use uppercase, two-letter abbreviation format to indicate the associated state.”Stories, Resources, Events

04One entry, one story

A new impact story is a form, not a page build

An impact story is a single CMS entry. The template lays out the rest.

  • State
  • Tag
  • Video link
  • Article
  • Photo gallery
A story in the CMS, then the page it builds.
